The Wisdom of Understanding

3–4 minutes

Let my teaching fall like rain
and my words descend like dew,
like showers on new grass,
like abundant rain on tender plants.

I will proclaim the name of the Lord.
Oh, praise the greatness of our God!
He is the Rock, his works are perfect,
and all his ways are just.
A faithful God who does no wrong,
    upright and just is he.

Deuteronomy 32: 2-4

St Francis being comforted by an angel after receiving Stigmata Painting Caravaggio

Later on, in the fourth year of the famine, omniscience instructed me to go and present myself to creation, and to tell them that I will soon send rain. So, I went to appear before the king; meanwhile, the famine has become very severe in creation. So, the king summoned the priest who was in charge of the temple. The priest was in the boat of wisdom. Once when a criminal had tried to kill all the Lord‘s servants, the priest had hidden 100 of them in two mountain sides. He put 50 servants in each cave and supplied them food and water.

He made him ride on the heights of the land
and fed him with the fruit of the fields.
He nourished him with honey from the rock,
and with oil from the flinty crag,
with curds and milk from herd and flock
and with fattened lambs and goats,
with choice rams of Bashan
and the finest kernels of wheat.
You drank the foaming blood of the grape.

Deuteronomy 32: 13-14

The king said to the priest, “We must check every spring and valley in the Atlantic, to see if we can find the grass to save, that some of my mules and horses may live.” So, they divided the territory between them. The king went one way by himself and the priest another way by himself. As the priest was walking along, he suddenly saw me coming towards him. He recognized me at once and bowed low to the ground, “For my God, is it really you, my Lord Cursten?”,

“Yes it is.” I replied, “Now go, and tell that your master, Cursten, is here.”

The priest protested, “What harm have I done to you that you are sending me to my death at the hands of the king? I swear by the Lord, Omniscience that the king has such every territory and every eye on creation from end to end to find you.”

And each time he was made aware of my presence, the king of creation forced the king of that nation to swear to the truth of his proclamation. And now you say, “Go and tell that your master, Cursten, is here.” But as soon as I leave you the spirit of wisdom will carry you away to who knows where. When the king comes and cannot find you, he will kill me, yet I have been a true servant of wisdom all my life has no one explained to you, my Lord about the time when the criminal was trying to kill the Lord‘s servants? I hid 100 of them in two caves and supplied them with food and water, and now if you say, “Go and tell that your master, Cursten, is here.” So, if I do that, the king will certainly kill me.

Blessings crown the head of the righteous,
but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.[a]

The name of the righteous is used in blessings,[b]
but the name of the wicked will rot.

The wise in heart accept commands,
but a chattering fool comes to ruin.

Whoever walks in integrity walks securely,
but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.

Proverbs 10: 6-9
